Champion of the regal category of the Central Inspection on Saturday the 17th of September was Janke L.W. Preliminary Crown (Jehannes 484 x Gjalt 426) who was bred and is still owned by the Ludema family. The Reserve Title was for La Lique van de Meikade Preliminary Crown (Jehannes 484 x Pier 448).

Tensions running high

There was a deafening silence when the Jury body’s representative Corrie Terpstra started to line up the thirteen brand-new (Preliminary) Crown mares according to catalogue number. She gave her commentary of the horses from the bottom upwards, which made tensions mount even higher. Finally the two that remained were Janke – bred and owned by the Ludema family who had earlier also been aptly portrayed by Omrop Fryslân, and La Lique, who was Foal Champion in 2019.

Athletic capacity

Corrie Terpstra described Janke as a ‘modern, longlined mare with a good topline and lots of use of the body’. La Lique, bred and owned by Willem Lokhorst from Ederveen, was complimented for her breeding type, positive body shape and ‘upgrading trot with great use of the hind leg.’ At the end of the day it was Janke’s athletic capacity and suppleness that made the decision tip in her favour.
