Horse of the Year in South Africa

In South Africa several Friesian horses earned the title Horse of the Year 2021. During the first weekend of March the Friesian Studbook in South Africa found herself in the company of various other breeds that are also vying for the HOY, the Horse of the Year Title within their own breed.

In the showdriving category it was the 7-year-old Waike W (Alwin 469) from Aveleda Friesian Stud who secured the Title Horse of the Year, with the Two-in-hand team Tessa and Anita van Aveleda (both by Foalbook stallion Bendiks fan ‘e Vesta Hoeve) as Reserve Champions. Also part of the select group of horses that were invited to the final were Tandora and Darius van Doorndraai (both by Tjalf 443) from Doorndraai Friesian Stud.

Prior to the grand finale the Champions in the various categories were appointed:

Champion geldings: Darius v Doorndraai (Tjalf 443)

Under-saddle Champion: Kalvin fân stal Bellefleur Star Sport AA (Tsjalle 454 x Folkert 353)
Showdriving Champion: Waike W (Alwin 469)
Champion obstacle driving: Geyerspan Maurits
