Nominees for Horse of the Year 2022

Voting can take place until 31 December. The public Jury and expert Jury combined decide who wins the title. Announcement of Horse of the Year 2022 takes place on Saturday the 14th of January during the online Stallion Inspection 2023.

Nane 492 Sport AAA

Breeder: Tj. Jongsma
Owner: Stal Henswoude

Actually, he has only seen action at one showdriving competition during the past season, but with Sybren Minkema holding the reins Nane 492 instantly made an overwhelming impression and won the Championship Studbook Stallions in front of the Sjees as well as the Prize of the Best. He has earned this nomination too because the likable 10-year-old KFPS Studbook stallion from stallion station Henswoude distinguishes himself on several fronts. From his first crop two sons have already been approved and the offspring of this Wimer 461 son also catch the eye in sport competitions and aptitude tests, both under saddle as well as in the harness. At the Stallion Inspection Nane 492 always puts his best foot forward, because he secretly harbours the hope that after the Reserve Title he just might make it to Champion at this grand Friesian stallion feast. This nomination gives Nane 492 the credit he deserves.

Jeroen Poll Sport Elite

Breeder: Maaike Poll
Owner: Marc Peter Spahn en Ykje Baron

For a long time he was living in stable mate Elias 494’s shadow, but with the nomination for Horse of the Year Jeroen Poll Sport Elite (Anders 451) steps straight into the spotlight. International Grand Prix rider Peter Spahn always meticulously and carefully prepares his horses for the dressage work of the highest levels. By now Jeroen Poll is feeling totally at home in this circuit, bringing home scores that already exceed the 70%. The stallion, who was bred by Maaike Poll, is performing better and better at international dressage competitions. ‘He’s going to demonstrate fine things’, Peter Spahn predicted earlier this year. Jeroen showcases once and for all that a Friesian horse in the International Grand Prix is not a coincidence and very modestly he takes over the tasks of ambassador. Not so surprising considering his background. With sire Anders 451 and grandsire Adel 357 Jeroen is the third generation of Grand Prix stallion in a row. The nomination of Horse of the Year fits the 11-year-old Jeroen like a glove.

Jehannes 484 Sport Elite AAA

Breeder:  Johannes Bakker
Owner: Jan en John Boot en familie Age Okkema

Jehannes 484’s nomination for the Title Horse of the Year should be seen as acknowledgement for his entire oeuvre. The 11-year-old Tsjalle 454 son became Overall Champion at the 2015 Stallion Inspection and Overall Reserve Champion in 2021 and 2022. With two approved sons (Auwert 514 and Foeke 520) he has definitely proven his worth in the male line. But he earns special praise for the many champions he provides at breeding days and the Central Inspection. The trendsetter of the inspection ring can boast a Star percentage of 68% and above all, sets himself a good example in terms of diversity. This year the figure head of Stal de Mersken became Sport Elite in three disciplines. Plenty of reason to make a bid for the Title Horse of the Year.

Ymkje ‘fan Panhuys’ Model Preferent Prestatie AAA

Breeder: familie Wijma
Owner: Gabriëlle van Tilborg

With Model Preferent Performance AAA the 15-year-old Ymkje ‘fan Panhuys’ (Jasper 366) has a pretty impressive series of suffixes to her name. Gabriëlle van Tilborg’s mare, bred by the Wijma family, mainly owes her nomination to her excellent performances in breeding. Meanwhile she has one Model- and two Crown daughters: Yanneke fan Dulve Model AA (Tsjalke 397), full sister Dinneke fan Dulve Crown AAA and Thirza fan Dulve Crown AA (Stendert 447). The next daughter is headed the same way: Jara fan Dulve Preliminary Crown (Alwin 469). Ymkje also makes a name for herself with her sons. Levi fan Dulve Star (Tiede 501) was selected for the Presentation Days, Mattie P fan Dulve Star (Pier 448) is through to the Second Viewing and his age companion Menneke fan Dulve (Jouwe 485) is hoping to achieve the same via the after inspection. Moreover, Ymkje’s breeding potential does not stop with her daughters. Granddaughter Jenneke fan Dulve is Preliminary Crown (Tiede 501) and became Champion at this year’s inspection in Wolvega. With these appealing results the fertile Ymkje is well on her way to becoming a new foundation dam in this branch of mare line 10.
